Don't need to be a kid. That's basically what I was doing on my dc style program last summer/fall. One work set. It all depends on what you do with it. What gl outlined is advisible. Thouroughly warmup and execute your main lift first. Then, the auxilliary exercises should need little to no warmup.
One set does not necessarily equal fail. Bulldozer it. DC it. Whatever you need to do. Just make it count.
