I do them this way as well, but there are tons of variations and 99% of which are great. It is one of those things that you have to find what you like and what works for you. I had to do them really strict because my upper back was weak, but everything else was strong enough to make up for it.

thanks man, I will play around until I find what stuits me best, Im finding the a wide grip is most comfortable, but I'm not sure if this is optimal.
