We had the opposite experience, our battery has just died and we've had the scale for over 5 years with no functioning issues.
Our's is a Soehlne, I'm not sure if they do them anymore if you can get hold of it either.
I have to say though, we do have a back-up non-digital scale, mostly because we kept it in storage when we got the other one but I do prefer the digital one.
The fact that it comes with a weighing bowl and a flat base for that to sit on, makes it great, because when weighing stuff, I take off the bowl and put on a plate or other container, then switch on, which brings it to 0, then add food/ingredients directly to the plate/dish that I'll be using instead of having to wash the measuring bowl every 5 seconds etc.
