Over the summer, I read:

The Old Devils Kingsley Amis. Shenanigans amongst the elderly in Wales. Bittersweet fun.

Pricksongs and Descants Robert Coover. Avant-garde American literature. Brilliant in patches.

American Desperado Jon Roberts and Evan Wright. The life of America's premier cocaine cowboy. I thoroughly recommend it. Lurid, gripping, violent and mesmerising.

Things Fall Apart Chinua Achebe. Colonial Africa from the African perspective. Great.

One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovitch Alexander Solzhenitsyn. fascinating account of survival in the Siberian work camps from a man who lived through it for eight years.

Currently reading: The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler
