USPA Central States Classic, Blue Springs, MO

June 15, 2013

I weighed in on Friday morning with the rest of the SOS team. I had eaten very well all week and weighed in at 334. We ate IHOP Friday morning, and then Cinzettis Italian Buffet Friday night to carb load and get ready for the meet.

Saturday morning I woke up a little late and got to Club 7 Fitness around 8:15. First flight of squats started at 9. I was in the 2nd flight with 2 other monsters, Jeff Frank and Kent Fleming. Both would go on to total 2000lbs+ for the day.

Started out by foam rolling and stretching.

Warmups felt a little slow but easy and they went as follows:

145x10
235x5
325x3
415x2
Added belt
505
Added knee wraps
595
645

All warmed up and ready for my attempts. I had trained to open at 705 the whole training cycle but decided to back it down to 685 and I'm glad I did.

1st attempt 685 good. Fell a little forward making this more of a grinder than I had wanted. Brushed it out of my head and stuck to my plan

I'm in the meet!

2nd attempt 716 good and an 11lb PR. This was fast and easy.

3rd attempt 727 good and a 22lb PR! Slower rep for sure but I hit it clean and I'm VERY happy with this weight.

Drank Gatorade, BCAAs and a low carb Monster energy drink in my down time. Also at a banana

On to bench. I've never been a great bencher so I've put a lot of focus into getting advice from the best on my weaknesses and my set up. Warmups were as follows:

135x10 laying on PVC
225x6 "
275x3
315
345
Warmups felt good

1st attempt 385 good. Nice and fast

2nd attempt 418 good. Again a fast rep.

3rd attempt 429 good and a 5lb PR! Really focused on getting as tight as possible and leg drive. I think I left 10lbs in the tank here. Good progress!

Sandwich, skittles, banana and another monster energy drink in the down time.

Deadlifts seemed like they took forever to start. I PVC rolled and decompressed a bit.

I had trained to open around 605 and this was a plan I was sticking to. Warmups felt explosive and went fast

135x10
225x5
315x3
405
Added belt
495
546

1st attempt 606 good

2nd attempt 655 good and secures a 3lb total PR

3rd attempt 683 good and a 5lb recent PR! Video is here

All in all this was a great day. Every one of the SOS guys went 8/9 or 9/9. Mike Greeno and his programming was amazingly successful and I can't thank him and the team enough for allowing me to be a part of it.

I totaled 1840.5lbs for a 33.5lb total PR and I qualified as an elite for the XPC Semifinals in October. Training starts next week.

Finally first and foremost I want to thank my family for making the sacrifices they do for me to train and compete. I also want to thank my sponsors for supporting me in my crazy Powerlifting dreams. Thank you to Chris Byrd and Supplement Supersource, Jay Hagadorn and Hydraulix, Matthew Eubanks and Muscle Threadz, Dr. Tom Teter and Engineering Athletes, and Ken Anderson and Anderson Powerlifting. And finally to my home gym Impact Elite Gym and MMA thank you guys for making the space and atmosphere to train to be my best.

And to my SHW buddy Jeff Frank congrats on your 2028 raw total. Now push me to get to 2k with you!
