bro, that was an exciting squat PR to watch!! wish i were there, i would've been shouting at you during that haha.
i personally think your setup is fine. my opinion is that standing with the weight for a few seconds isn't a make-or-break point with a max attempt. i've never felt it hindered me from lifting more, and i don't feel like it drains my strength at all. actually, i feel much stronger when i take the time to set up right. i've seen a lot of strong guys on YouTube take their time to set up on squats as well. i don't compete in powerlifting, so you can take it for what it's worth, but i think it's an overblown issue.
