Almost certain that I was making those mistakes you talked about, with squats. And yes, I started with Starting Strength (when I actually got around to finding a routine, lol).
Of course, I can't do low bar / wide-ish stance squats at the moment, so I can't be sure. But I'll keep it in mind, if/when I get back to them.
