I kind of know what you mean, but on the other hand, embiggening (lol) IS actually making something bigger for reals, so...

As in the case of lats, say, wider lats literally can make your mid-upper torso, well, wider. Therefore bigger. Same goes for thickness of various muscles, and so forth.
