What are you doing with your knees at the moment, are you pushing them out hard?
I tried multiple approaches there. I always break at the knees first, but I've tried pushing them straight forward, straight to the side, and kind of diagonal (and different degrees of diagonal if you can picture that). I think what worked best so far is pushing my knees diagonal at about 45 degrees and then really actively pushing them to the sides. I might just need to keep doing that with more practice and patience.
