That's a good tip about having your blood checked.
I also recently found out about checking your food in terms of vitamins and minerals. Turns out that I am pretty much getting everything I need from food and that my mulit vitamin is not really necessary, and also a lot vitamins and minerals need to be taken with water or fat or in conjunction with something else in order to be absorbed properly, and most of those connections are made naturally when getting the nutrient through food. So, now I only take the multi if I had a bad nutrition day (and I'm trying to avoid those!)
