Used to use plates under heels as a beginner until I figured out hip and ankle mobility needed. Also was a high bar squatter then with medium stance and wider grip.
Now, I squat to true parallel with low bar with medium-wide stance, narrower grip.
Some people just squat better in shoes. Nothing wrong with that. More important to keep form., so if shoes help with that, rock on.
