Depends how old is considered old, if it's been within a year you should be speaking to someone to get it properly checked out in case there is the potential for rehab to work, if however it is decades old then you have to learn your body's limits and how to work around an injury; there is no other way, with old injuries.
I constantly deal with two old back injuries and an old knee injury, all of which are over 2 decades old with some being closer to 4 decades old.
