Cut and dry YES, when trying to make gains over cutting, the general rule is more energy exerted the more cals in the form of good fats or carbs.
Many do the carbs but I know a few that have had great success with good fats. Pro bodybuilder and trainer Eric Broser is big on high fats pre workout.
I'm a old fart and odd ball. I like doing my higher cal (carbs and fats ) on off days when the body is healing and recovering. I have only played with this idea for this the last year or so and have been having good results.
I keep my protein the same every day based on my Lean Body Mass not scale weight.
