BDFPA Regionals at Fitness Factory, Coventry.

Hey all, the day started off pretty well. I weighed in very comfortably at 97kg in clothes, I'll definitely be moving back down to the 90kg's for the next one. I picked my openers at 220kg - 130kg - 220kg in the Squat, Bench and Dead respectively. The Squat and Dead were both equipped and the Bench was low since I wasn't yet using a Shirt, and I rarely Bench raw in training anymore.

Squats

220kg was a tough rep. I took my final warm up far too close to the 220kg attempt, my fault really as I wasn't quite used to the timings. Also the rack height was too high, which meant I fumbled out of the rack and tired myself out. By the time it came to the Squats I struggled to come out of the hole, I could see people in the audience wincing.

240kg and 260kg went considerably better. Since it the lifts were done by flight, there was a very nice time between each attempt. 260kg was pretty easy and was the final Squat of the day.

260kg/572lbs

Benches

130kg felt hard. 140kg went up but I raised my butt of the Bench, and 140kg didn't go. No excuses I just didn't have it today. But bearing in mind the various circumstances this wasn't a massive surprise.

Deads

Feeling knackered at this point and just trying to keep up some banter backstage as everyone was getting tense. So I was having a laugh and it seemed to ease the atmosphere somewhat. 220kg was ridiculously easy, 240kg the same. 260kg slowed a little at the top but not much.

260kg/572lbs

Total = 650kg/1430lbs in the 100kg/220lbs class.

650kg isn't too bad without a Bench shirt, i'm pretty sure 700kg will happen once the shirt is sorted since I've been working with a lot more in even in the Slingshot. Dropping a few kilos will easily sit me in the 90kg class as well. It was a good day, served as a nice confirmation that what I've been doing in the gym is working. Also the Comp organiser seemed to be interested in me competing again. The Comp was put on very well, very nicely run considering the huge number of people there and competing. Everyone seemed in good spirits. Met some very nice people as well.

I'm taking tomorrow off, but I'll be back in the gym on Tuesday.
