I have learned never to try an beat my previous 1RM by more than 5-10 pounds on the big lifts. That's how I roll. Others may like to do it differently, but they don't have a beard.
I also tend to add 2.5kg max (5.5 lbs) to the previous 1RM, sometimes lower, if I can access lighter weight plates; being female, that sort of falls into line with the above load additions...albeit on a smaller scale.
