Training can be detrimental to anyone's well-being. Improper form, too much volume, not enough sleep, not enough food, going heavy all the time; the same rules apply. However, the alternative of sitting on your ass all day, eating the crap kids eat, will most likely prove to be more detrimental in the short term and long. Look at how many obese children there are now, and some being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Its ridiculous.
I'm not saying that kids should necessarily be all out exerting themselves like we do when we train, but its not going to hurt them to be challenged. Will I have my kids involved in sports and possibly weight-lifting? Absolutely. Will I push them to make progress? Absolutely. However, the one thing we need to remind ourselves is that they're still just kids. But they still need to get off their ass and go do something other than video games and TV all day.
All the kids these days are little gurly-mehn... Its sad.
