Sorry to hear about the ankle! Just hang in there and do what you can. It may not be ideal, but you can find ways to work around it. Believe me, I've been on the injury bus a lot the last few years, and less than optimal training is worlds better than no training at all!!!!!
Glad the change in routine has worked well for you.
I find that if I drive a routine into the ground, and then make a relatively drastic change in the routine I'm using (rep range, volume, etc.) that my body reacts very well. I get maximal gains out of the routine I was doing, and I get the whole "muslce confusion"( I hate that term) factor of making a drastic switch.
