Ice is a good thing. I was covering for a buddy at work the last couple of days. I did a lot of lifting and stacking of boxes. Not too heavy, mostly in the 7 to 25 pound range. Some a lot more (75 pounds). Some a bit less (2 pounds). My elbows are complete and utter toast. Perhaps the (for me) heavy rows on Sunday played a part too. My session tonight suffered a bit.

Tuesday, 5/24/11

Squat
45x5
145x5
165x5
190x5x2

OHP
55x5
65x5
75x5
85x5
100 N/A - I unracked it and made a couple of attempts, but my elbows were barking so bad. It was remarkable that I got the 75 and 85 pound sets.

By now I was a bit concerned about my deads. I thought about bailing out on them, but decided to try and see how far my elbows would let me get...

Deadlift
135x5
230x5
265x5
290x5
340x5

Success! I reached my target. No problems. I even got a bit cocky. A friend of mine was watching me, so without any strain in my voice, I held the last rep and asked, "How's that look?"

"Just fine."

"Is it legal?"

"Yep."

He's worked out with some big lifters back in the day, and he told me that I might want to look up at the ceiling and really pull my shoulders back at lockout in order to prevent injury. I'm thinking that by hyperextending my back I'm just asking for trouble. Any thoughts?
